That taught me nothing but only how good he is ...or thinks he is.
Hands down the greatest pure swing of all time
Grip tip . You stuck it in the drink 😊
Does anybody else have a problem with Pete's re-gripping the club at 1:16 with the club head changing in a different position? At 1:12-1:15 the toe is down. Then he re-grips and the toe is rotated 90 deg and points into the bucket and stays there to the top and down into the "slot" and then he rotates the forearms to impact where the toe is now down. I don't get the re-grip, something is missing in the explanation. It seemed that he rotated his forearms at the regroup. But, this demonstrates (but not explained) the "forearm spinning or rotation" that he (and disciples) talks about in other videos. The other thing I don't get is why not do the drill with toe up.... It seems that his words say one thing but he is demonstrating rotate forearms on the way back till club is horizontal, no more rotation till downswing and club is horizontal again - then rotate forearms (and hands). It seems that the value of this drill is that it visualized the face of the club travelling along the plane.
May be only flop shot + slam dunk 😅😅😅😅😅
Nine majors and had to beat Arnie Jack Casper Trevino Watson Miller Weiskopf and Seve. All multiple champions who did not play for second place. I would call that great.
Thank you
Some old lady at the clubhouse said I have your ball- me* I was looking for that. I only used a 60
All of Phil’s lesson videos are great and provide insight
Pete is the Steve Bleile of Golf.
Beautiful!
He made that last shot look so easy. A true pro at short game. A ball deep in high grass rough just outside the green with 10 yards to the hole on a downhill is a very tough shot. He landed that shot so beautifully.
I was hitting flop shots 125 yards today on the green with a 6 iron
I am not a weekend golfer. I play on Mondays when no one else is watching.
Phil is so good
I miss this Callaway. Look at them today, bunch of stuck up asshats that canceled their long time partner in the game of golf. I am boycotting Callaway.
I'm not gay but I would do so many things to Phil Mickelson
One day I did this 3 times on the course and had within 5 feet of the hole the rest of the day didn't go well
Unreal! We’re so lucky Phil takes time out to show us mortals the intricacies of his golf shots! Such a master.
Weekend golfers are about 99.5 % of all golfers. Only 0.5% might take the club back properly. Golf is the greatest of all sports ! ⛳
legend mate
I love hearing golf coaches spout absolute sh!t 😂
not a high percentage shot was the takeaway
I need to invite my mother in law to course. great idea...like a hunting trip without the shotgun.haha
golf is so technical. been playing for years and I still know nothing.
Most conceptualize the golf swing as sweeping action with hands pulling club through the ball. That works, but isn’t as powerful or efficient as what he is teaching which is essentially to throw the hands down in the vicinity of the back knee in the downswing and keep them there and then let momentum and gravity whip the club head around the hands with a thumb-up to thumb-down ‘waggle’ action. The club can whip around the hands faster than the hips and shoulders can sweep it. The physics is similar to what happens in a car crash if the occupants are not wearing seat bents. In the downswing if the back foot is kept on the ground the hips can only swing open 45° which brings the shoulders back parallel to target line at address. That abruptly slows down the hands just as the club shaft reaches horizontal which then causes the club head mass to whip down and forward around the hands like the unbelted driver flying through the windshield of the car when it abruptly stops. In the golf swing style he is teaching the lifting and turning of the back foot to keep the hips and shoulders turning to the finish is coordinated with that whipping action of the club head around the slowed down hands. In practice the hips move laterally to the target and turn to 45° open with back foot still on the ground and if feels like the hips are hitting a wall just as the club head reaches the ball at which point the back heel is lifted to allow hips, shoulders and hands to keep moving to the finish as the club force pulls the trailing arm out straight at the target as occurs when tossing balls side arm.
What you are describing you do work, yes. However, your swing will lack compression of the golf ball, which in turn, produces speed, power, and distance. The long the golf ball is in contact with the face of the club, the more compression of the golf ball that is allowed to take place producing not only more distance, but also allows for more user input on control & direction of the ball.
@@rationalsanelogical8910 Respectfully disagree. Compression is a function of F=1/2(Mass x Velocity^2) striking force. Releasing the club around the hands increases club head velocity more than just dragging it lagging through the ball with hip and shoulder turn.
If you did this with a normal address then surely the club face would be closed at impact, how can he go from toe pointing at the tub to toe pointing to the ground without hand rotation.
you’re allowed to just kick it onto the green though right?
A golfing genius..and gentleman...and comedian..just all around great guy. How could you not love Gary..
This is so complex and learned thru reptition. Amazing to watch him talk
I think this drill works better the way I was taught and don't rotate your hands - so keep the toe pointing at the ball. Start as Pete does - toe down in normal stance - rotate in so it now points at the ball and your right elbow way underneath your left - right shoulder way down - then keep the toe pointing at the ball in the backswing and in the downswing - it's feel thing you're going for. Then get that feel into a normal set up / swing.
I wouldn’t recommend that for a couple reasons. With your right shoulder that low you are going to get in some bad positions that might even be bad on your back. Also keeping the toe pointing at the ball misses the point of ingraining what a proper release should feel like.
@@Pseudify Yes David I agree - it's not a template for swinging - it's a drill to show a slicer an extreme position to help them change. Shoulder down to 15" behind the ball. Right elbow lower and brushing below your ribs. The sense of being behind the ball instead of over and fwd of it in an over-the-top swing. This definitely does not teach release - that's impossible with this drill/exercise. (Anyway - this is how I was taught this exercise by an ex-Tour pro that had played 5 Opens in the past - so he must know a thing or two about striking the ball.)
That was unreal how the club just slipped under the ball in the fluffy lie
He's a cheat...take him out of the hall of fame..
I am an American. I know my countrymen. I strongly suspect that they are the largest percentage of the critical comments made by those who do not understand the lesson
Me too Im an American, We dont understand the British language. hahaha Most of his videos Im lost, but the Brits and Euros are right on. This one I got.
brilliant
1:39 was insane!
He's the magician in golf.
Professor Phil
Man, I hate to say this, but I actually think Gary is wrong here. Sucking the club inside on the takeaway is a recipe for casting and over the top...Most people will have better luck doing the opposite. Justin Rose has a great video explaining this.
He never said ' sucking ' He said ' take it a "little"on the inside ' good luck with your delusions ... :)

Most over the top moves come from taking the club too much inside on the backswing 😂
1:00 pay attention
I'm going to try this technic when on the green instead of putting
The most impressive part was the casual full swing underneath the ball…
When he swings the face right under the ball without touching it. Damn.
But do I need an actual axe for this? Sounds dangerous
How to Hit a Flop Shot ft Pro Golfer Jamie Jacob ruclips.net/video/M2AVTRqwgcA/видео.html
Saw the vid and tried it, got it first shot some how 10yards out below the green in the rough got it within 5ft and 3 putted 🤣
ARGH!!!!!1 WHY THE F have I not watched Phil's videos till NOW!!!!!! He is concise and to the point and my brain can digest it very easily!!!
%99.999 of every guy would've shanked that last shot 50 yards into the lake, Phil is a legend.
Wait he freaking litteraly went under the ball..... holy...
